Awakening Tree is a grove for spiritual growth. Explore the forest, find a tree that speaks to you, and rest beneath its branches.
People have realized a spiritual synergy with trees, across all traditions. Whether it is the bodhi tree of the Buddha, the broom tree of Elijah, or the yellow birch of Thoreau, these ancient rooted beings are among the wisest of teachers. They provide shelter from the clamoring of the conditioned mind, and a serene space for simply being.
As a kid, I would delve the forests of the Rockies, finding hidden trails among their roots. Trees remain a sanctuary to this day, where I can escape the noisiness of life, and simply be. I see the sameness of myself in them, and of them in me.
Nature invokes presence. But how do you remain present, when returning to the distracting world of doing? Meditation develops this capacity for stillness, regardless of the turbulence of life.
When meditation is mastered, the mind is unwavering like the flame of a lamp in a windless place. In the still mind, in the depths of meditation, the Self reveals itself. Beholding the Self by means of the Self, an aspirant knows the joy and peace of complete fulfillment. Having attained that abiding joy beyond the senses, revealed in the stilled mind, he never swerves from the eternal truth. He desires nothing else, and cannot be shaken by the heaviest burden of sorrow.
- Bhagavad Gita 6:19
